Avian Breeding Center Volunteer Program PDF Print E-mail

Volunteers at Avian Breeding CenterWe would be very excited to have you as a volunteer at Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Breeding Center.  Our new volunteers focus on feeding the birds, cleaning aviaries, and working on special projects.

More experienced volunteers may also be involved with aspects of the avian breeding and research projects. Zoo and wildlife management professionals should also refer to the Avian Husbandry and Management Program.

Volunteer Program

This program is designed for those who are willing to spend significant periods of time at the Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Breeding Center in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, U.S.A. in order to assist in the day-to-day management of the avian collection and facilities. It may be especiallly beneficial to those who enjoy close contact with wildlife or to students who are attempting to gain valuable experience for careers in zoos and other animal-related fields.

Volunteers at the avian breeding center must be physically fit and willing to work outdoors in all but the most severe weather conditions.
