Habitat: Coscoroba Swans are found in the southern two thirds of South America.  They are partial to shallow lagoons, lakes and marshes that support abundant submergent and floating vegetation.

Personality: Coscoroba's tend to be more wary than other birds.  They usually take flight before other birds become alarmed.  During breeding season, they can be extremely defensive and will have long territorial disputes that can occasionally result in the death of the looser.

Miscellaneous: Coscoroba Swans are the smallest and least swan-like of the eight species.  They are shaped more like ducks and unlike other swans, they have their entire face feathered.  They are also the only swan that can raise directly from the water during take-off's, while other swans have to patter over the water for a short distance.
