Rainbow Lorikeet  (Trichoglossus haematodus)

  

  • This small and brightly colored member of the parrot family is highly gregarious and found in large flocks. 
  • An arboreal species, it spends all its time in the trees and feeds primariy on pollen, nectar, fruits and flowers. 
  • Rainbow Lorikeets have a specialized tongue with papillae (brush-like projections) on the tip to help them soak up nectar and extract pollen.
