                                          Branta canadensis minima

Habitat: The Cackling Canada Goose breeds almost entirely along the coast of the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta in western Alaska, most winter in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys of California.

Miscellaneous: These are among the smallest of the Canada geese, weighing only about 3-4 pounds.  While these birds are small in size, they are very loquacious.  They are named for their loud vocal calls that sound like rapid, high pitched cackles.
