                                                 Aleutian Canada Goose

                                             Branta canadensis leucopareia

Habitat: This is the only Canada Goose that has a geographically distinct range.  Many thousands once bred across the western two-thirds of the Aleutian Islands, as well as the Komandorskiye and central Kuril Islands in Siberia but have declined in numbers for many reasons.  Breeding range was limited due to hunting and military occupations during WWII.  The most harmful to the Aleutian Canada Geese population was the introduction of the Artic Fox.

Miscellaneous: At one time thought to be extinct, this goose was upgraded to threatened when the population reached close to 8,000 birds, as of 1992.
